International Student Enrollment

Fall 2025

Sat.-only and Fri.-Sat. classes begin Aug. 23.
Weekday classes begin Aug. 25.

Taking all of the steps below in the order they are presented will get you off to a good start with registering for your first-semester classes.

  • All new freshmen and transfer international students:
Before the May 1, 2025, deadline, log in to the CSUN Portal to submit your Intent to Enroll to receive important CSUN communications. No fee is charged to declare your intent.

  • All F-1 Visa international students, all class levels:
To maintain your international student visa status and before you can enroll in classes, you’ll need to complete CSUN Visa & Immigration Advisement at 6-Step Immigration Requirements as soon as you are admitted.

  • J-1 Visa students:
Visit J-1 Exchange Students for your next steps including advisement.

  • Meet faculty, staff and other students and learn about CSUN resources at orientation! It's fun and required for all international students. Find dates and sign up at mandatory New International Student Orientation.

Important!

Log in to the CSUN Portal and your Checklist to ensure you've completed all tasks to finalize your admission. You may also want to revisit Admitted International Students.

As an international student, you will receive academic advisement tailored to your class level, listed below.

Undergraduate F-1 Visa Students

As a new international freshman or transfer student, you'll be pre-enrolled in classes by an advisor.

  • If you have not received an email with instructions from an academic advisor in The Hub International, contact an advisor today at hub.intladvisor@csun.edu.

  • Complete Pre-Enrollment Steps #1 and 2, including the "Response Questionnaire" and "New International Student Advisement Workshop," to indicate your class preferences and be enrolled.

Graduate F-1 Visa Students

In addition to academic advisement, CSUN’s degree planning tools are designed to help you select the right courses at the right time. The tools will help guide your class choices for the current and future semesters.

  • The Degree Road Maps outline two- and four-year plans to complete courses for your major in a recommended order. Road maps are available for freshmen, transfers and students who have earned an Associate Degree for Transfer from a California community college.

  • The Degree Progress Report (DPR) provides a full picture, or audit, of your progress toward completion of bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree requirements.

  • The DPR/Planner allows undergraduates to plan courses for future semesters based on DPR audit requirements. You can even export your planned courses from DPR to Registration Planner.

  • Registration Planner lets you generate all possible class schedules in seconds! Just select desired courses and break times, and let the app do the work. You can compare schedules, save favorites and send one to your enrollment shopping cart, ready to submit when your enrollment appointment arrives.

Find details, tutorials and login links for all the tools at Plan Your Degree.

For your first semester, how you register as a new F-1 Visa student will depend on your class level: undergraduate (freshman and transfer) or graduate student.

New Undergraduate International Students

  • Check your CSUN email for a Welcome Letter from The Hub-International after you are admitted. This will have instructions on next steps before registration.
  • Log in to the CSUN Portal to review your checklist (guide) for any incomplete tasks or holds.
  • Ensure you've completed Title IX training and purchased health insurance, as explained in "Before You Register" above.

As a new undergraduate international student, you will be enrolled by the Hub-International Advisors for your first semester AFTER you complete the Pre-Enrollment Steps on The Hub International website.

New Graduate International Students

After meeting with your graduate program coordinator for academic advising, you can enroll independently. Learn more about the registration process at How To Register.

If you are a new undergraduate international student, you will be enrolled by The Hub International Advisors for your first semester AFTER you complete the Pre-Enrollment Steps.
