CDSC 10th Anniversary, 2010-2020: Ten Years of Vision, Struggle, and Movement Building

CDSC 10th Anniversary Celebration

This event celebrates CDSC’s tenth anniversary, grounding the initiative’s origins in student activism. CSUN alumni Dr. José Gómez, Jonnae Thompson, and Justin Marks were organizers of the March 4, 2010 student mobilization against tuition/fee hikes during the Great Recession and for undocumented students. The three alumni will speak about the March 4th mobilization, the LAPD crackdown of the protest and arrest of six of the marchers, and the subsequent legal struggle to have charges dropped. Nasrin Sotoudeh

NASRIN is an immersive portrait of attorney Nasrin Sotoudeh, one of the world’s most prominent human rights activists and political prisoners. Nasrin has long fought for the rights of women, children, LGBT prisoners, religious and ethnic minorities, journalists and artists, and those facing the death penalty. She was arrested in June 2018 for representing women who were protesting Iran’s mandatory hijab law, and she was sentenced to 38 years in prison, plus 148 lashes (12 years of which she must serve).
