In January, the MDECOE was selected as one of five CSU colleges of education to participate in the Chancellor’s Office Learning Lab for Improvement: CSU Educator Preparation Diversity Initiative. StrengthUnited Supports Our Community Through Crisis

StrengthUnited provides intervention, prevention, and outreach services to thousands of children, adults, and families throughout our community, and hundreds of CSUN students have received their undergraduate and graduate training there. When COVID-19 pandemic turned our world upside down, StrengthUnited quickly adapted in order to continue providing 24/7 crisis services, and expanded their work to meet the growing need and reduce factors known to contribute to abuse and maltreatment. Pete Goldschmidt Awarded Project Grant

Dr. Pete Goldschmidt has received an award from the State of Mississippi for his project entitled, “Evaluating English Language Progress Models: The Sensitivity of Claims about Progress Across State Models” in the amount of $290,185. This award represents a significant accomplishment on his part and an important contribution to the University. Congratulations, Pete!

CTL continues to provide Professional Development support to our community

Center for Teaching & Learning

During these unusual times, the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) continues to support a wide variety of schools and programs to address their identified needs. Birmingham Community Charter, Roosevelt, and CHAMPS Arts high schools have all extended their contracts for the 2020/2021 academic year. Also, SIMPACT is now housed within the CTL. SIMPACT (www.csun.edu/simpact) is an award-winning mixed-reality simulation system designed to provide educators with a highly realistic virtual platform to practice skills around social work, counseling, teaching, conflict resolution, social-emotional learning and many other interpersonal interactions. The Bridge Project Receives Continuation Grant

The Office of Special Education Programs (U.S. Department of Education) has recently approved a continuation award to CSUN for the project entitled, “The Bridge Project: Bringing Early Childhood Special Educators and Behavior Interventionists Together Through Interdisciplinary Evidence Based Preparation to Serve Young Children with High-Intensity Needs” in the amount of $193,552 for Year 2020-2021. Distributing supplies to parents and kids in need

On Saturday, October 17 the Family Focus Resource Center (FFRC) in collaboration with programs in the Teaching Learning & Counseling Consortium (TLCC) and the Child Development Institute (CDI) distributed PPE, diapers, Parent Notebooks, and Distance Learning Kits to families living in the San Fernando Valley. Before opening the gates of the CDI, cars lined up on adjacent streets. Once the gates opened a steady stream of over 170 cars passed through the distribution center. Read more
