Distributing supplies to parents and kids in need

October 27, 2020

On Saturday, October 17 the Family Focus Resource Center (FFRC) in collaboration with programs in the Teaching Learning & Counseling Consortium (TLCC) and the Child Development Institute (CDI) distributed PPE, diapers, Parent Notebooks, and Distance Learning Kits to families living in the San Fernando Valley. Before opening the gates of the CDI, cars lined up on adjacent streets. Once the gates opened a steady stream of over 170 cars passed through the distribution center.

Placed in car trunks were facemasks, shields, and hand sanitizers to protect families from exposure to COVID-19, and diapers for families with infants and toddlers. The Parent Notebook, prepared by the FFRC, contained tips for helping parents of students with special needs advocate for educational services during the pandemic. The Distance Learning Kits contained a student nameplate, glue stick, sand timer, squeeze ball, and whiteboards, markers and a “googly-eyes” white board eraser. To help families use the contents of the Distance Learning Kit, TLCC directors recorded two webinars, accessible in both English and Spanish. One webinar focused on how to use the contents of the Distance Learning Kits. The second webinar provided information on how parents can support student success during the pandemic, as well as how to “take care of themselves” in the process.
