Dean's Welcome to New and Continuing Credential and Degree Candidates

College of Education administrators, faculty and staff welcome students for virtual fall instruction with the goal to deliver transformative educational opportunities in a safe and responsible manner. We hope that you have remained safe and well over the summer months and that you are ready to join us for a meaningful and successful course of study in the new academic year!

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to create challenges for our candidates, faculty, staff, K-12 partners, and our teaching/learning communities. California State University Northridge will remain virtual through the Fall 2020 semester, and all university lecture courses in the Michael D. Eisner College of Education will be held online this semester. Currently, the majority of the K-12 school districts in Southern California are reporting that they will begin the Fall 2020 semester in an online virtual format.  This means that candidates scheduled for student teaching or fieldwork in Fall 2020 will also begin their student teaching or fieldwork online. 

However, depending on the current local status of the pandemic, some K-12 school districts may reopen their campuses for in-person instruction mid-semester. If this occurs, all candidates will be expected to be physically present in the classroom where they are placed for student teaching or fieldwork. For candidates unable to participate in person, see the paragraph on deferred placement below. Compton Male Teachers of Color Network May Virtual Summit flyer

The Compton Male Teachers of Color Network held a virtual summit on May 23rd to share universal best practices designed to support male teachers and administrators of color. College of Education members Josh Einhorn, John Reveles, and Al Restori were involved with the summit, as well as Travis Bristol from UC Berkeley. Over 50 teachers, principals, superintendents, university representatives, the CA Superintendent of Schools Office, the Chancellor’s Office, and community partners participated.
