Many species of South African plants, especially bulbs, are well-suited for Southern California gardens. Amaryllis, gladiolus and freesia are well-known for their contributions to the home garden, but there are numerous, lesser-known bulbs — such as albuca, ferraria, lachenalia and babiana — that have their own distinctive blossoms. -- Press Release Point

AMOBI AWARDED STEM SCHOLARSHIP Odinakachukwu Amobi, also known as Aki Amobi , is the third recipient of the Dr. Wanda M. Austin STEM Endowment scholarship.

Amobi will receive a $10,000 scholarship, which is potentially renewable for up to four years, along with a summer internship opportunity at Aerospace. He will attend California State University, Northridge in the fall to start his undergraduate studies in computer engineering. -- Aerospace

Three satellite venues has appeared over the last decade — the Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, the Soraya at Cal State Northridge, and the Broad Stage in Santa Monica. These organizations exist near residential neighborhoods and are partly responsible for the increased energy of the region’s dance scene. Their more intimate theaters also make a good fit for chamber music and acoustic jazz, which don’t have a perfect home here in 2018. The Broad museum, Hauser & Wirth gallery, and the Theatre at the Ace Hotel are also recent arrivals. All three of these were established at times when downtown real estate was less expensive -- Los Angeles Times

2018-19 Northridge Scholars: Three from HHD

The 2018-19 Northridge Scholars were honored recently at an event held at the CSUN University House, home to CSUN President Dianne F. Harrison. The scholarships include financial assistance and access to mentors who can guide students on their paths to success. Out of 127 applicants, just three students were awarded Presidential Scholarships, and 24 were recognized as University Scholars. One Presidential Scholar and two University Scholars are from the College of Health and Human Development. Read more
