2017 CSUN Freshman Convocation

This year's Freshman Convocation will take place on the Oviatt Library Lawn and the featured keynote speaker will filmmaker, musician, speaker, and activist, Bree Newsome!

Continuing Students are also welcome to join the fun by simply coming to the Oviatt Lawn prior to 6:00 p.m.  Once freshman guests are seated, the remaining chairs will be available for guest seating.  Seating in this area may be limited.  However all guests are also welcome to watch from the Sierra Quad Lawn.

“Jack Kirby @ 100,” an exhibit of comics and prints at the Oviatt Library, commemorates the centenary of the famed artist, known for co-creating the Marvel Universe. Working across half a century of comics in diverse genres, Kirby (b. Jacob Kurtzberg, 1917-1994) is the quintessential American comic book creator, and one of the most imitated artists in American popular culture. To launch the show, curator Charles Hatfield will host a panel with comics creators Mark Badger and Tony Puryear on August 28th, which is Kirby's 100th birthday. “Jack Kirby @ 100,” an exhibit of comics and prints at the Oviatt Library, commemorates the centenary of the famed artist, known for co-creating the Marvel Universe. Working across half a century of comics in diverse genres, Kirby (b. CSUN affirmed Kirby’s legacy in 2015 with an Art Galleries exhibition, _Comic Book Apocalypse_, and is continuing the celebration this term with “Jack Kirby @ 100,” in time for the 100th anniversary of his birth.
