International Student Seeking a 2nd U.S. Degree

Per federal regulations effective Sept. 15, 2026, F-1 international students may pursue only one degree at each academic level in the United States. Students who earn a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree in the U.S. on Sept. 15, 2026 or later, will not be eligible to pursue a second degree at the same or lower academic level in the U.S. As a result, CSUN will not be able to admit students who earn a U.S. degree after Sept. 15, 2026 at an academic level and are seeking a second degree at the same or lower academic level.

If you earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the U.S. after Sept. 15, 2026, you are eligible to pursue a second degree at a higher academic level only. For example, if you have earned a bachelor’s degree in the U.S., you may pursue a master’s or doctoral degree. If you have earned a master’s in the U.S., you may pursue a doctoral degree.

International students whose degree was earned outside the U.S. are not subject to this regulation.
