ABOUT EOP: The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at CSUN designs, administers, and supports programs that deliver access and retention services to historically low-income, educationally disadvantaged college students.
ABOUT THE POSITION: Under the direct supervision of the EOP Associate Director and EOP Outreach Coordinator, the EOP Outreach Mentors serve as guides to support students with EOP Presentations, CSU Applications, FAFSA/DREAM Act, and EOP Applications. The peer mentors are an integral part of the EOP Outreach team by assisting students in creating a connection with EOP and supporting them in successfully applying to the program. EOP Outreach is critical to students who may not see themselves in college due to many challenges that exist in underserved communities. The EOP Outreach team provides one-on-one support, presentations, and CSUN tours for all interests. This position provides specialized outreach to foster youth applicants and supports EOP RSP outreach events. The EOP Outreach team is seeking highly motivated and responsible students willing to commit to a challenging opportunity.
DUTIES (INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
- Serve as a mentor to potential student applicants by providing guidance, support, and accurate information.
- Communicate and follow up with applicants using Zoom, phone, emails, etc.
- Assist in planning and organizing EOP outreach workshops, virtual activities, and events.
- Document services provided and submit reports to the supervisor.
- Consult with professional staff regarding any specific needs of students.
- Consider all information regarding students as confidential and share only with appropriate EOP Outreach staff.
- Professional demeanor is required at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must maintain good attendance and punctuality.
- Undergraduates are preferred, not required.
- Participation in EOP Transitional Programs is preferred, not required.
- Must be in good academic standing (i.e., not on probation).
- Applicants must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and clearly .
- Ability to work well independently with little supervision, and be able to work as a team member.
- Must demonstrate maturity, responsibility, and reliability.
Note: This position will require mentors to have a valid driver's license, reliable car, and current insurance. Mentors will be required to go on/off campus to prepare and present with the EOP Outreach Team.
Salary: $17.50/hr (plus mileage reimbursement for work travel, outside normal commute).
Work Hours: : 15 to 20 hours per week – some evenings & weekends required.
Training: Mandatory in-person training & weekly staff meetings (TBD).
