11th Annual We Are Power: Community in Action Conference logo

When it comes to the promotion of social justice, CSUN MSW students are ready to work. The We Are Power: Community in Action Conference was an inspirational example of what that work can do. Held in February of 2020 and organized by students of the Department of Social Work at CSUN, this year’s annual conference marked the first to move away from the title “Diversity Day” and embrace the words coined by Native activist and poet, John Trudell: “We Are Power.” Watch the conference video.

Ridg Downs Releases Midnight Scars EP

Ridg Downs is a 23-year-old American singer/songwriter and Actor from Des Moines, Iowa. Downs moved to Los Angeles in 2016 to further his education at CSUN. While in Iowa, he participated in numerous musicals and plays. Live theatre and frequent music performances helped Ridg fall in love with the art of music. He is a classically trained singer who grew up in a world of musical theatre. This love for musical theatre helped him eventually transition to the pop sound you hear in his music today. -- PR Web

Rabbi Jordan Goldson to lead Har Sinai Temple ‘into our future’

His first pulpit was in Calgary, Alberta, where he served for 12 years. During his tenure there, he was president of the Canadian region of the Central Conference of American Rabbis and chairman of the Calgary Rabbinical Council. Later he took a break from the pulpit to serve as executive director of the Hillel at California State University in Northridge. He returned to synagogue life in 2004, joining Temple Kol Ami in Scottsdale, Ariz., and five years later assumed his position in Baton Rouge. -- New Jersey Jewish News

Ongoing protests due to anti-Black racism in America continue to send a message of anger and pain over the need for change. These protests signal that enough is enough. Another message also is emerging, one of compassion. Compassion for those victims who have repeatedly experienced injustices, compassion for those facing their own implicit biases and privilege and now choosing to speak out for change, compassion for one another as we move through this ugly time together to work toward a better, more just world.
