1. How do I log onto the computers in the Juniper Hall classrooms?
You use your Campus User ID and password. This is the same User ID/password combination that you use to access the Portal and your CSUN email. If you have any questions about your account, please complete a Service Request or stop by our office in JH 3117.

2. I will be teaching at CSUN, but haven't officially started or signed in with Human Resources. How do I obtain an email account?
Although you haven't officially started at CSUN, you may still be able to obtain an account through sponsorship from your department.
For more detailed information about the requirements and procedures, please see the section entitled "Faculty Temporary User ID and Password " located at /it/user-id-and-password.

4. What are the uDrive, vDrive and WebDrive? How do I access them?
"The UDrive is a document/file container that provides limited disk space for campus faculty, staff, and students to store coursework, work files, and research documentation, etc."
Configuration information may be found at /sites/default/files/udrive.pdf.
"The VDrive is an extra storage area resource at CSUN to provide additional disk space for faculty and staff who wish to use video on demand as an element in their web presence."
Configuration information may be found at /sites/default/files/vdrive.pdf.
"The university WebDrive is a dedicated drive to host all university web content."
Configuration information may be found at http://www.csun.edu/it/webdrive.

5. Why should I use the uDrive?
The uDrive allows you to save documents to a central file server. By using this networked drive, you can publish web pages by simply dragging and dropping to the appropriate folder. Since this Udrive appears to your system as just another disk drive, you can organize your files by creating folders and subfolders. You can also copy, move and delete files from one folder to another.
This feature is especially helpful in accessing PowerPoint, Excel and other files in the Juniper Hall classrooms (or any other classroom with Active Directory computers). Once you copy files to your uDrive in your faculty office (or from your home), they are immediately available to you when you log on to your classroom computer.
The uDrive is also accessible from home or other off-campus locations. Appropriate configuration information is available at /sites/default/files/udrive.pdf.

6. What is the easiest way to access my files (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.) in the Juniper Hall classrooms?
The easiest way to access your desktop/laptop files (other than using a flash drive) in the DNCBE Smart classrooms is by using the uDrive. Since you can access this drive from your office computer or any other system (laptop, home, etc.), you can copy/move the files you need into the uDrive and then have access to them in the DNCBE classrooms. You will not need to use a memory stick, floppy, or cd to move files back and forth.
Please Note: In some cases, the uDrive does not automatically appear when you log on to an Active Directory system. In this situation, you will need to manually "map" the drive (see FAQ #4).

22. What is the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics' computer refresh cycle??
DNCBE systems are typically refreshed every 5 years via a Bulk Purchase Refresh Cycle. Via this method, eligible faculty are given the opportunity to choose a desktop or laptop from a list of available Mac and Windows systems. The expectation is that the chosen system will meet their academic and research needs.
Staff and Part-Time Faculty Office systems are usally replaced with a desktop.
Last reviewed: (11/09/16)
23. How do I know when I am eligible to have my computer refreshed?
During the Bulk Purchase Cycle, an email is sent to each department with a list of eligible individuals as well as a list of what systems are available to be selected from. Department Chairs then notify their faculty about their eligibility.
You may also contact the Office of Information Technology at any time to see where you are in the 5-year refresh cycle.
Last reviewed: (11/09/16)
24. What systems can I choose from??
The list of available laptops and desktops (Windows and Mac) is evaluated before each Bulk Purchase cycle. This list is attached to the emails that Department Chairs receive of their faculty's eligibility.
Last reviewed: (11/09/16)
25. When does the Bulk Purchase Cycle occur?
The Bulk Purchase cycle is usually conducted during the Spring semester (March/April). Given the dates of the end of year purchase, most systems are not placed until the end of Summer. However, this placement may be coordinated for an earlier placement if the system is needed sooner. Please speak to either Michelle or Claudia at 818.677.2442 if you have any questions.
