Choral Ensembles
Choral music has long been an important part of the Northridge campus. Students graduating from this area have gone on to impressive careers including solo singing, opera, music administration, conducting, and teaching. Each year the choral area sponsors a choral festival featuring the top high school and college choral groups in the state.
Choral ensembles on the California State University, Northridge campus have distinguished themselves for more than 30 years with excellent performances at state and national festivals and conferences, as well as featured performances throughout Europe and Russia. Students performing in the choral ensembles are provided a solid foundation in choral education, and are exposed to the wide array of musical genres.
In recent years the Northridge Singers has regularly collaborated with the CSUN Symphony Orchestra in performing some of the major instrumental/choral work of music history including the Requiems of Mozart, Brahms and Faure and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. In the spring of 2023 they collaborate with the orchestra and rock artist Serj Tankian leading to a release of a live album in the fall of 2023.
Northridge Singers
An advanced SATB ensemble of 50 singers made up of the departments vocal majors. This ensemble has long been recognized as one of the state's finest. Literature performed represents the finest composed with special emphasis on a "a cappella" forms. Membership based on audition.
University Chorus
The oldest of the campus ensembles, this ensemble is designed for the non-voice major. Students in this ensemble represent various areas of the music department, as well as students from other disciplines on the university campus. Music includes a variety of styles including sacred, folk, musical theater. A major work with orchestra is scheduled for performance at least once a year.
