Moving Accessibility Upstream: A TV Platform Case Study
- Date & Time

- Location

Platinum 5 (VISPERO)
- Description
-
TPGi worked with a major video streaming service on accessibility. After initial in-house accessibility efforts had made some progress, they were ready to scale up all of their target platforms: smart TVs, mobile apps, and web. They recognized the need for an accessibility journey and kicked off the collaboration. Accessibility audits and training were expected from the start, but the project also had built-in flexibility to deploy any of TPGi’s expert services.
We describe our solutions to questions and challenges from a year-long collaboration:
• Choosing the scope of initial audits: platforms and functional breadth
• Lessons learned from collaborations with designers
• Setting the tempo of accessibility role-based training
• Applying accessibility best practices to a smart TV app: research, iteration, and emerging norms
• Defining a partnership between in-house and outside accessibility experts
• Innovating the format of accessibility design artifacts and reference guides
• Measures of success for the digital products and for the organization
