How to Make the Hiring Process Inclusive

Date & Time
Friday, March 17, 2023 - 3:20 PM PST
Location
Platinum 6 (LIVESTREAM)
Description
A global survey by Monster.com found that inclusion in the workplace is important to 86% of candidates worldwide. Furthermore, their research showed that 62% of people would even turn down a job offer if the organization didn’t support an inclusive culture The purpose of the “How to Make the Hiring Process Inclusive” session is to spread awareness of how to make the hiring process more inclusive. Some key things that can be done in order to ensure this are - 1. Inclusive Job Descriptions - Be sure to have one that speaks to diverse applicants while being specific about the skillset. Do not include terms or content specific to gender, background, disability or status. Lay the groundwork for a more inclusive workspace. 2. Where to recruit/who should do the recruiting - Ensuring there is diversity in the panelists that conduct the interview. Also, educating panelists to counter “just like me” bias. 3. The interview process should select questions that focus on talent and not abilities. 4. Offer internships and coops to targeted groups of people. This is a great way to encourage candidates to join the team and ensure diversity. 5. Partner with third party organizations who can help find talent from diverse groups and ensure that we offer opportunities to all, irrespective of their background, race, gender, disability. 6. Last but not the least, organically create an employer brand that values opinions from ALL. Establish company values that promote inclusion and diversity.
