Overview

The Academic Council is the body that oversees the curriculum proposals by the Departments and Programs that are part of the College of Humanities. Its voting members represent all Departments and Programs within the college. The Dean and Associate Dean (or Special Assistant to the Dean) of the College of Humanities have a voice in the council and participate in an advisory capacity. The Associate Dean (or Special Assistant to the Dean) also serves as Executive Secretary and represents the Council as part of the Educational Policies Committee at the University level. All proposals evaluated by Academic Council are reviewed based on the Mission of the College in terms of their academic excellence; their exploration and value of the diversities of cultures, thought, perspectives, literatures and languages of humanity; their critical analysis of the multiple dimensions of the human experience; and their contributions to the growth of students as responsible global citizens. Furthermore, all proposals are evaluated based on their justification, and particularly, their estimated impact on Department, Program, and College resources. Finally, this body considers carefully the ways in which proposals reflect each Department or Program's Measurable Student Learning Outcomes, and its projected assessment plan.
