Effective August 1, 2017, Cal State Apply, www.calstate.edu/apply, will replace CSUMentor as the new CSU application for admission.

Application Filing Periods & Deadlines

To apply for admission to California State University, Northridge (CSUN), you'll need to know:

  1. Is the application filing period for your target degree program open or closed?

  2. Are you eligible for admission to your target degree program?

Initial Filing Periods 

The initial application filing period is the minimum time that applications for admission are considered. The initial filing periods for CSUN are:

  • FALL semester admission: October 1 - November 30*
  • SPRING semester admission: August 1-31* 

*Graduate programs typically remain open for an extended time beyond the initial filing period. For details, select the “Graduate Student” row below.

First-Time Freshman

Fall 2017 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

October 1 through November 30, 2016.

Freshman applications must be received during the initial filing period.

New:  The rules for freshman impaction have changed and eleven majors are impacted.

Impacted Majors:

Four Undergraduate Programs in Business:

  • Accountancy

  • Finance - Financial Analysis

  • Finance - Financial Planning

  • Finance - Insurance

And these seven majors and their options:

  • Biology

  • Cinema & Television Arts

  • Communication Studies

  • Health Sciences

  • Kinesiology

  • Music

  • Psychology

Current Status:

CLOSED.

Important Dates:

SAT/ACT scores are required for all first-time freshmen and must be received by Admissions and Records no later than February 1, 2017. Please see additional requirements at Applicants.

 

Spring 2018 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

August 1-31, 2017.

Current Status:

CLOSED. Please check back in July 2017.

Important Dates:

SAT/ACT scores are required for all first-time freshmen and must be received by Admissions and Records no later than August 31, 2017. See additional requirements at Applicants.

Transfer Student

Lower-division transfer student applications are not currently considered for admission to Cal State Northridge. To confirm that you are an upper-division transfer student, please visit Applicants

Fall 2017 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

October 1 through November 30, 2016.

Transfer applications must be received during the initial filing period.

New: For Fall 2017 admission, CSUN is impacted to transfer students and eleven impacted majors.

After the application filing period closes, eligible CSU students may be able to enroll through the “CSU Fully Online Courses” program. Learn more at Enrollment Programs.

Credential Student

Fall 2017 Admission

Initial Filing Period Begins:

October 1, 2016.

University applications for graduate programs, including credential programs, are typically accepted after the initial filing period. However, individual credential programs may have earlier closing dates.

For individual credential program application deadlines, review the Credential Programs website or contact the CSUN Credential Office.

NOTE: Two (2) applications are required - one to the University and another to the Credential Program.

Current Status:

OPEN.

Please note:

  • The CSUMentor online university application will not be available after May 31, 2017. Please submit your online application by 11:59 pm on May 31, 2017 for faster processing. 
  • Starting June 1, 2017, university applications for Fall 2017 credential programs must be submitted on paper.  Before completing the paper university application, review the Credential Application Requirements for the desired program.
  • University applications will typically be accepted after the Credential Program application closes to accommodate applicants who did not submit a university application.
  • Both a university and a credential program application are required.

STARTING JUNE 1, 2017

PAPER UNIVERSITY APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

After confirming your eligibility for the desired credential program, complete the paper university "2017-2018 CSU Graduate Application Form," available at Credential Applicants.

NOTE: You do not need to enter the 3-digit Credential Code or the Credential Objective Code in the paper application.

 

Spring 2018 Admission

Initial Filing Period Begins:

August 1, 2017.

University applications for graduate programs, including credential programs, are typically accepted after the initial filing period. However, individual credential programs may have earlier closing dates.

Fall 2017 Admission

Initial Filing Period Begins:

October 1, 2016.

Graduate applications for master's and doctoral programs will be accepted by the University after November 30, 2016.

Note that individual graduate programs may have earlier application closing dates than the University deadline. For individual program application deadlines, contact the department of interest listed at Graduate Programs.

Two (2) applications are often required - one to the University and another to the individual graduate program. Please read Graduate Applicants and contact the department for details.

Initial Filing Period Begins:

Graduate applications for master's degree programs will be accepted after August 30 through [date TBA] unless the individual program closes earlier.

Individual graduate programs may have earlier closing dates than the University deadline published here. For individual program application deadlines, contact the department of interest listed at Graduate Programs.

Some graduate programs consider applications only for fall—not spring—admission. For individual program status, see "Current Status" below.

Post-Baccalaureate, Unclassified Student

Post-baccalaureate unclassified applications are not currently considered for admission to Cal State Northridge. Read more about classified and conditionally classified status in the University Catalog.

Second Bachelor's Student

Applications for second bachelor's degrees in all majors are strictly limited at this time.

Fall 2017 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

October 1 through November 30, 2016.

Current Status:

Spring 2018 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

August 1 through 31, 2017.

Graduate Intrasystem Concurrent Enrollment, Intrasystem Visitor Enrollment

Fall 2017:  OPEN if the graduate degree program is open.

Spring 2018:  CLOSED. Please check back in July 2017.

Returning Student

 

Fall 2017 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

October 1 through November 30, 2016.

Returning undergraduate students must apply for admission during the initial filing period. Review the requirements for returning students, whether in good standing or previously disqualified in the last semester at CSUN, at Returning Applicants.

Current Status:

CLOSED to returning undergraduate applicants.

OPEN to returning graduate applicants if the degree program is open.

Important Dates:

Returning undergraduate students must complete the Previously Disqualified Student Questionnaire (.pdf) and submit it to Admissions & Records no later than [date TBA].

 

Spring 2018 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

August 1 through 31, 2017.
