Application Filing Periods & Deadlines


1. Two Initial Application Filing Periods –
California State University, Northridge (CSUN) generally accepts applications during the following initial filing periods:

  • FALL semester admission: October 1 - November 30.
  • SPRING semester admission: August 1-31.  

All applicants are encouraged to apply during the initial application filing period. Except for impacted majors and class-levels, CSUN will continue to accept applications after the initial filing period on a space-available basis. Applicants should check the application filing status for their class level on this page.

2. Impaction – If your major or class level is impacted, you must apply during the initial filing period.

First-Time Freshman

Fall 2014 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

October 1 through November 30, 2013.

Class Level Impaction:  Because of freshman impaction, you must apply for admission to Fall 2014 during the initial filing period. Please read CSUN Freshman Impaction and the requirements for first-time freshman Applicants.

Academic Program Impaction:  At CSUN, three majors are impacted: Accountancy, Finance, and Business Administration – Insurance and Financial Services option. You will need to apply for the related "pre-major" in CSUMentor and meet prerequisites in your initial studies. See Undergraduate Programs in Business.

Current Status:

CLOSED.

Important Dates:

SAT/ACT scores are required for all first-time freshmen and must be received by Admissions and Records no later than February 3, 2014. See additional requirements at Applicants.

Spring 2015 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

August 1-31, 2014.

Current Status:

OPEN to nonresident applicants. See Applicants.

For Spring 2015, CSUN will be closed for admission to most California residents because of firm enrollment targets established by the state, which have already been met for the 2014/2015 academic year. We will not be limited in undergraduate admissions of nonresident students as these students do not count toward enrollment targets.

Important Dates:

SAT/ACT scores are required for all first-time freshmen. Enclose a copy of your SAT/ACT scores with your paper application for admission. Your application and scores must be received by Admissions and Records no later than September 2, 2014. See additional requirements at Applicants.

Lower Division Transfer Student

Lower division transfer student applications are not currently considered for admission to Cal State Northridge. Exceptions, if any, are shown in the tables below.

Fall 2014 Admission

CSUN is not currently accepting applications from lower division transfer students.

Spring 2015 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

CLOSED.

Upper Division Transfer Student

To confirm that you are an upper division transfer student, please visit Applicants.

OPEN to nonresident applicants and STAR Act/SB 1440 applicants with a verifiable Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T/AS-T).

Credential Student

Fall 2014 Admission

Initial Filing Period Begins:

October 1, 2013.

University applications for credential programs will be accepted after the initial filing period.

Note that two (2) applications are required - one to the University and another to the Credential Program.

Current Status:

OPEN.

 

Spring 2015 Admission

Initial Filing Period Begins:

August 1, 2014.

University applications for graduate programs, including credential programs, will be accepted after the initial filing period until November 1, 2014. However, individual graduate programs may have earlier closing dates. For individual program application deadlines, contact the CSUN Credential Office.

Note that two (2) applications are required - one to the University and the other to the Credential Program.

Current Status:

Graduate Student - Master's and Doctoral

Fall 2014 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

October 1, 2013 through July 1, 2014.

Please note that individual graduate programs may have earlier application closing dates than the University application deadline. For individual program application deadlines, contact the department of interest from the Index of Graduate Programs.

Spring 2015 Admission

Initial Filing Period Begins:

August 1, 2014.

Graduate applications for master's degree programs will be accepted through November 1, 2014 unless the individual program closes earlier.

Individual graduate programs may have earlier closing dates than the University deadline. For individual program application deadlines, contact the department of interest from the Index of Graduate Programs.

Some graduate programs consider applications only for fall, not spring, admission. For individual program status, see the list below and the department website listed at Graduate Programs.

Post-Baccalaureate, Unclassified Student

Post-baccalaureate unclassified applications are not currently considered for admission to Cal State Northridge. Read more about classified status in the University Catalog.

Second Bachelor's Student

Second baccalaureate applications are currently considered for admission to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) majors only. Check the tables below for a list of STEM majors and their current application filing status. 

Fall 2014 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

October 1, 2013 through July 1, 2014.

Current Status:

CLOSED.

 

Spring 2015 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

August 1-31, 2014.  To be considered for admission, second bachelor's degree applicants need to submit their online CSUMentor application before 11:59 pm on Monday, September 1, 2014.

Current Status:

OPEN to the following majors in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields:

Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental and Occupational Health, Geology, Math, Physics, and Radiologic Technology.

 

Graduate Intrasystem Concurrent Enrollment, Intrasystem Visitor Enrollment

OPEN if the graduate degree program and/or class level are open.

Returning Student

Fall 2014 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

October 1 through November 30, 2013.

You must apply for admission to Fall 2014 during the initial filing period. Review the requirements for returning students, whether in good standing or previously disqualified in the last semester at CSUN, at Applicants.

Current Status:

CLOSED.

Important Dates:

Complete the Previously Disqualified Student Questionnaire (.pdf) and submit it to Admissions and Records no later than April 1, 2014.

Spring 2015 Admission

Initial Filing Period:

August 1-31, 2014.

Current Status:

CLOSED.

Important Dates:

Not applicable.
