ATI Governance

Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) Governance

In compliance with Coded Memoranda AA-2015-22 (pdf) and Coded Memorandum AA-2013-03 (pdf), the Executive Sponsor for California State University, Northridge (CSUN), convenes the ATI Steering Committee at least twice each year.

Since that steering committee is comprised of executive administrators, among others, and because there are so many units on the CSUN campus that work on or with accessible technology, it is in CSUN’s best interests to have subcommittees and working groups that report up to the ATI Steering Committee, as outlined below. Where possible and as noted, existing Technology Governance committees have assumed these ATI responsibilities. In addition, other CSUN committees include ATI representatives.

ATI Steering Committee

The Executive Technology Steering Committee (ETSC) is the senior university IT governance group and principal advisor to the President on information technology issues and decisions. The ETSC reports, through the Vice President for Information Technology, to the President’s Cabinet and meets monthly.

The Executive Technology Steering Committee convenes twice per year as the ATI Steering Committee with additional members from the key stakeholder groups across the institution.

Additional Members for ATI Steering Committee meetings:
Name TItle Representing
Dr. Jeff Wiegley President Academic and Faculty Senates
Dr. Helen Heinrich Associate Vice President Academic Technology
Sara Miller Director & ADA Coordinator Office of Equity and Compliance
Kathryn Tipton Program Manager Universal Design Center

ATI Service Committee

Committee coordinates across all the offices on campus that offer ATI-related services. The ATI Services Committee reports up to the ATI Steering Committee via the chair (the UDC Program Manager), assists with preparing the annual ATI reports, and guides the work of the ATI Coordinators. This committee partners with colleagues on the Campus-Wide Disabilities Issues Board.

The ATI Services Committee provides recommendations regarding:

  • Campus training needs related to accessibility;
  • The most concerning current uses of materials and technologies that are not yet accessible;
  • The available and needed resources for assisting faculty and staff in selecting accessible products and/or making materials and technologies accessible;
  • Workable standards for documenting alternative accommodation plans; and
  • Other actions that could be taken to ensure that accessibility considerations become common business and educational practices.

Meeting Schedule: Once per month (as needed)

ATI College and Divisional Coordinators

The members of the ATI Coordinators Committee are the first point of contact for ATI in their respective areas. This committee, including members from key stakeholder groups across the institution, serves a hands-on role in ensuring accessibility technology goals are met in their areas.

Meeting Schedule: Once per quarter (as needed)

Web Accessibility

The Digital Presence and Governance Committee (DPGC) reports to the Executive Technology Steering Committee and oversees university-wide digital communication platforms, social media channels, and CSUN’s digital platforms, including csun.edu and related properties, to reflect university values and comply with accessibility and web standards. The committee meets monthly.

  • DPGC serves as the Web Accessibility group, coordinating through the Universal Design Center Program Manager with the ATI Services Committee. Each year the group reviews and revises both the Web goal area of the Campus Accessibility Plan and the ATI Web Report.

Procurement Accessibility

The Technology Procurement Committee (TPC) reports to the Executive Technology Steering Committee and provides strategic oversight for campus-wide technology procurement practices including accessibility compliance. The committee meets monthly.

  • TPC serves as the Procurement Accessibility group, coordinating through the Universal Design Center Program Manager with the ATI Services Committee. Each year the committee reviews and revises both the Procurement goal area of the Campus Accessibility Plan and the ATI Procurement Report.

Instructional Materials (IM) Accessibility

The Advisory Committee for Academic Technology (ACAT) consults on the management of University-wide IT support of instructional and scholarly activities from the perspective of a college or division, not individual users. The committee meets monthly.

  • ACAT serves as the Instructional Materials Accessibility Committee. Each year, ACAT reviews and revises both the Instructional Materials goal area of the Campus Accessibility Plan and the ATI Instructional Materials Report. The Committee and the Plan will serve in support of the work that the Faculty Technology Center (FTC), Universal Design Center (UDC), and other areas across campus contribute to support faculty and ensure our students have accessible instructional materials.
