Anticipated Part-Time Faculty Openings AY 2026 to 2027

Anticipated Needs:

    • Final determination of part-time teaching assignments is contingent upon student enrollment figures and funding.
    • Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours and participation in assessment of student learning. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are employed. 

Current Salary Range:

  • The Lecturer A/Rank 2 base salary range is $5,507 to $6,677 monthly. For example, teaching 3 units equates to a 0.20 time base (3/15). Calculated at the entry level salary of $5,507, multiplied by time base for a 3-unit course, 0.2, this will be $1,101.40 per month paid in 6 monthly checks. The total semester salary is $6,608.40.
  • The Lecturer B/Rank 3 base salary range iis $6,221 to $13,224 monthly. Teaching 3 units equates to a 0.20 time base (3/15). Calculated at the entry level salary of $6,221, multiplied by the time base for a 3-unit course, 0.2, this will be $1,244.20 per month paid in 6 monthly checks. The total semester salary is $7,465.20.

Current Courses or Specialization:

  • SUS 500: Foundations of Sustainable Systems
    • Graduate course that introduces the interdisciplinary foundations of sustainability from a broad, systems-level perspective. Drawing on ecology, social science, economics, and policy, the course examines how human decisions and institutions shape and are shaped by natural and built systems.
  • SUS 510: Resource Use and Management
    • Graduate course focused on current and best practices for resource use, monitoring, and management. The course takes a quantitative and applied approach to understanding how energy, water, and materials flow through systems and how those flows can be measured, modeled, and managed toward more sustainable outcomes.
  • SUS 520: Regulatory Framework for Sustainability
    • Graduate course that examines the law and regulatory policy governing the operation of businesses and organizations and their impact on sustainability.  
  • SUS 530: Mixed Methods in Sustainability Research
    • Graduate course that provides an overview of the quantitative and qualitative methodologies utilized by practitioners of sustainability  
  • SUS 540: Sustainable Business Practices
    • Graduate course that provides an interdisciplinary exploration of strategic issues in sustainability, including economic development, community development, and entrepreneurship. Uses various frameworks such as systems thinking to analyze opportunities and threats sustainability creates for organizations

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Sustainability, Geography, Environmental Studies, Business, Economics, or another relevant science or social science field; professional experience in sustainable business practices, economic development, community development, and/or entrepreneurship preferred.  
  • Demonstrate commitment to working with and mentoring a diverse student population.
