Mission Statement
Our program prepares students to pursue careers in sustainability by developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for solving local, regional, and global problems. Students cultivate professional skills and learn key competencies in sustainability through our core classes, while also developing disciplinary knowledge through an elective track. All students gain professional experience and demonstrate their mastery of sustainability principles by completing a graduate project. Upon graduation, our students enter the workforce as leaders prepared to creatively address sustainability problems with attention to environmental, social, and economic considerations.

Founded in 2008, the Institute for Sustainability works with stakeholders across campus and the region to integrate sustainability into all aspects of the university, from operations and infrastructure to outreach, education, and research. Sustainability MA students have the opportunity to work with the Institute to conduct applied research to advance sustainability goals across campus and the region.
