Degree & Diploma

Congratulations, you did it! You have completed all degree requirements.

After all students' university grades are submitted for the semester or term of your planned graduation, we will begin reviewing all degree candidates’ academic records. Because of the time required for "end of term" processing (including repeat action, GPA calculation, and academic status) and the volume of degree applicants, the degree awarding process may take 3 to 5 weeks after the end of the term or semester.

After the degree is granted, the diploma will be mailed to your address on record within 4 to 6 weeks. To ensure receipt, confirm and update your address online now: Log in to the CSUN Portal and select the Student Center icon from the Top Tools section. In the Student Center Personal Information section, specify a diploma mailing address. Helpful: Update Personal Information How-To Guide

Once your diploma has been mailed, you will receive a confirmation email from our official diploma vendor, the Michael Sutter Company. Additionally, the email will include a link with information on ordering an official e-Diploma.

Then, get ready to “walk”! Get tickets to invite your family and friends to attend Commencement. Attend GradFest at the Campus Bookstore, usually held two days in March, to rent your cap and gown, order invitations, and much more.

The Commencement ceremony is held once a year at the end of the spring semester. Only students who earned their bachelor’s degree in the previous fall semester, as well as degree candidates for the current spring and summer terms, may participate in Commencement. For example, only students who graduated in Fall 2023 and candidates for Spring 2024 and Summer 2024 graduation are eligible to participate in the 2024 Commencement ceremony.

IMPORTANT: In order to participate in the ceremony and have your name published in the program, you must apply to graduate by the Commencement deadline published in the Graduation Calendar.

Learn important details at GradFest. Also find ceremony schedules, visitor and ticketing information, streaming video and more on the Commencement & Honors Convocation website.

What will appear on my diploma?

Your diploma will include the following information:

  • Your name. To change your diploma name if applying to graduate online, file a Diploma Name Change Request (PDF). If using the paper Application for Bachelor's Degree and Diploma (PDF), indicate your preferred diploma name on the form. Note that the last name must match your university records.
  • Major(s) and, if applicable, approved major option(s)
  • Minor(s). An awarded minor will be posted on both the diploma and the CSUN transcript. All requirements for a declared minor must be completed by the time the degree is conferred.
  • University Honors will be posted if they have been awarded by the time the degree is conferred.

May I request a duplicate diploma?

Absolutely. To request a duplicate copy of the diploma, file the Application for Duplicate Bachelor's Degree and Diploma (PDF) along with the $8 fee per diploma. Please allow 2 to 3 weeks for mailing or processing.

Tell us where you'd like your diploma to be sent by indicating a diploma mailing address in your CSUN Portal. Helpful: Update Personal Information How-To Guide

What if I need proof that I graduated?

Once your degree has been conferred, you can obtain official transcripts that document your degree information. Learn more at Order Transcripts. Employers and other agencies seeking degree verifications should contact the National Student Clearinghouse.
