The fundamental purpose of the College is to increase understanding of a complex and ever-changing world through excellent teaching and research in the social and behavioral sciences. The College enrolls the largest number of students at CSU Northridge. We have nine departments and 115 full-time faculty and over 100 part-time faculty, many of whom have won teaching awards and are nationally known scholars. Our faculty research
and teach about real world problems, ranging from the law and geography of 'payday'
loans in military towns to gang crime in Los Angeles to analysis of demographic and cultural shifts in San Francisco and civic life in
the Middle East to the neurological causes of Alzheimer's disease and the preservation of folk lore in developing nations. Many of our courses focus on issues that affect our region, our community and the global context. Each year more than 800 students participate in internship projects in the Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley area. (Read More)
