Program Overview

The Family and Consumer Sciences Education option at CSUN provides a background in FCS Education coursework for students wanting a broad FCS educational background or to pursue a teaching single subject credential.  FCS Education students who wish to pursue a Home Economics credential must seek subject matter clearance by completing passage of the CSET.  Please see the Credential section in the University Catalog.

The curriculum provides a comprehensive background in child development and guidance; family living and parenting education; consumer education; housing and interior design; food and nutrition; textiles and apparel design and merchandising; individual and family health; and leadership.

A crucial component to the FCS Education academic experience is the required internship course. Students earn professional experience and academic credit toward the degree. Internships provide networking opportunities and potential lifelong professional relationships.

Child & Family Studies Center

The Child & Family Studies Center (CFSC), also known as the "lab school", is an educational setting for young children from the community, and their families, whose goal is to secure strong relationships between home and school. As an instructional unit and research laboratory, we strive to promote the professional growth of the university students, faculty, and staff.
