The Good Person of Setzchuan

September 24-27, 2025

Written by Bertolt Brecht | Adapted by Tony Kushner

Directed by Shanna Beauchamp

Three gods arrive in the town of Setzuan with nowhere to stay; Shen Te a downtrodden young woman attempting to lead a “good life” offers lodgings to the Gods. In return for her kindness, they grant her a vast sum of money, intended as both a gift and a test. As using the money towards charity for others begins to weigh heavy on Shen Te, she assumes an alter ego obsessed with the God’s challenge. Adapted by Tony Kushner, this searing parable by master playwright Bertolt Brecht dares us to question what it means to be “good”.
