Film Production

In the film production program students will learn the complexities of the art and craft of filmmaking, beginning with conceptualization, traditional film production practices inclusive of producing, directing, cinematography and production sound recording, through the post-production workflows of motion picture editing, sound design and mixing. All aspects of these stages require both critical and creative thinking.

Course projects are prescribed as teaching tools with professional learning objectives applicable for both entertainment and informational purposes.  These production objectives include grasp of the required deliverables to all exhibition venues from the theater, streaming, television, and internet platforms, etc. 

During the 4-semester program experience, the student will migrate through the program to the final crucible of exhibition with a Senior Thesis Film Showcase.  This journey includes story creation, learning how to collaborate, how to translate words from the printed page to moving images and then how they are reimagined into edited films that capture a viewer's attention.

Student films from the program have received accolades from the Directors Guild of America Student Awards, the BAFTA Student Awards and the Student Academy Awards. Recent film alumni have won the Emmy® and the Oscar®.

The film program’s distinguished faculty includes both Emmy® and Academy Award® winners.
