The Warmth of the Sun: A Recent Survey of Tierra del Sol Artists
August 25 – October 15, 2025
Exhibition Reception: Thursday, September 11 from 5:00 to 7:30pm
The Warmth of the Sun showcases a range of works created by Tierra del Sol artists, who work out of the foundation's Sunland and Upland studios, much of which depicts what it can feel like for anyone to be alive today in the Greater Los Angeles area. There is flora, fauna, and fast food; there are hot rods, tchotchkes, and a rabbi; there's a chessboard, a baseball stadium, and a map of the entire region's metropolitan bus and rail system. What makes Los Angeles – and the sprawl that spreads from its center – so special is the way that the natural world, urban life, people, and myriad cultures are so enmeshed in unusual and unpredictable ways. What makes Tierra’s artists so special is the ways in which they capture the essence of this particular place with such poetry and precision.

Upcoming Exhibitions
This year, CSUN Art Galleries will host a series of three West Gallery exhibitions about local San Fernando Valley-based arts organizations. Additional organizations to Tierra del Sol are: Tia Chucha's Centro Cultural, a non-profit learning bookstore and cultural center that transforms community through ancestral knowledge, the arts, literacy, and creative engagement; and 11:11 Projects, an artist-run collective that empowers artists with the tools to create justice-centered, community uniting art in public space. The exhibitions will highlight these important organizations’ many creative contributions to the cultural fabric of the Valley. Although the three organizations serve varied missions and people, they each exemplify the power of art to nurture growth, build empowerment, and forge community.
