CLIMB began as a dream shared by three faculty and clinicians, Talin Bakalian, Sarah Cathcart, and Vicky Graham. The initiative grew to include faculty and clinicians from departments across the College of Health and Human Development.


Sarah Cathcart, MS, CCC-SLP

Profession: Speech Language Pathologist
Area of clinical expertise: Neurogenic disorders

“If you build it they will come! I envision students from a variety of health related and business fields collaborating throughout their student training prepared to enter the work force with mind set and skills for effective collaboration.”  

I believe that working collaboratively with other allied health professional allows me to provide higher quality care to my patients and increases my job satisfaction. When I collaborate with others I am actively engaged in learning and analysis that stretch my clinical knowledge and deeper my expertise.

Talin Bakalian, PHD, RN

Profession: Nursing
Area of clinical expertise: Nursing education with emphasis on simulation.

IPE is vital for future collaborative care, the only effective way of delivering health care! We initiated CLIMB to empower our graduates and future generations of health providers, providing the tools for effective collaboration.

Vicky Graham, PT, DPT, OCS, NCS

Profession: Physical Therapy
Area of Clinical Expertise: Collaborative clinical practice including orthopedics, limb loss and neurorehabilitation.

Collaborative practice inspires and elevates my skills, providing better outcomes for my patients. I am delighted to work with CSUN students, faculty and community providers who share our passion for an interprofessional future.


What is Interprofessional Education? (IPE)

IPE is an educational model bringing two or more students from different professional programs together to study and practice collaborative care.

What is Interprofessional Care? (IPC)

Interprofessional care or interprofessional practice occurs when professionals from different health care disciplines provide care in an integrated, collaborative model.
