The Michael D Eisner College of Education’s Center for Teaching & Learning is proud to offer another amazing presentation from the Education on the Edge speaker series.
Dr. Barry Prizant will be presenting virtually on September 30 at 7:00 p.m. for one hour. Zoom link will be available on the CTL website at www.csun.edu/ctl.
Dr. Barry M. Prizant is among the world’s leading authorities on autism, and is recognized as an innovator of respectful, person- and family-centered approaches for individuals with autism and neurodevelopmental disabilities. With close to fifty years of experience as a scholar, researcher, and international consultant, he is an adjunct professor at Brown University, a certified speech-language pathologist, and director of Childhood Communication Services, a private practice. Barry is co-author of The SCERTS Model: A Comprehensive Educational Approach, now being implemented in more than a dozen countries. He has published four books, more than 130 articles and chapters and has received many awards, including the Honors of the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (their highest recognition), the Princeton University Eden Foundation career award in autism and the "Divine Neurotypical Award" of GRASP, the world's largest autistic self-advocacy organization. His most recent book is Uniquely Human: A Different Way of Seeing Autism (Simon & Schuster), winner of the 2017 Autism Society of America’s Temple Grandin Award for Outstanding Literary Work.

Meet Our Guest Speakers:
CSUN Chicana/o Studies Professor Ramón García is the author of two books of poetry The Chronicles and Other Countries and a monograph on the artist Ricardo Valverde.
The Chronicles was a finalist for the Latino International Book Award for Best Poetry Book in English in 2016. García was born in Colima, Mexico and grew up in Modesto, California. He earned a B.A. in World Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a Ph.D. in Literature from the University of California, San Diego.
CSUN Alum Byron Gonzalez brings us some of the freshest music from artists all over the world with roots in Latin America, Spain and Brazil. Catch Byron on 88.5 FM for his show called Bilingual Sounds, which is on every Wednesday at 9PM. He curates an eclectic mix of music exploring the many facets of rock, folk, hip-hop, electronic, cumbia and traditional Latin sounds.
Byron was born in Guatemala City and raised in Los Angeles. He started to pursue radio broadcasting during his time at Santa Monica College. This decision sparked a passion to further his education at CSUN as a Journalism major. Soon after graduating, Byron accepted the role of Brand manager of 88.5 FM's Latin Alt HD3 station. He is also a Latin Roots correspondent for NPR's World Cafe program, crafting the "World Cafe Best New LatinX Playlist" on Spotify.
Art critic, curator, and author Shayna Nys Dambrot (LA Weekly, Flaunt, Art & Cake, and Artillery) offers insight and advice to emerging artists. Attendees will gain tips on how to gain entry to shows and galleries, the steps to position oneself and the benefits of community.

CSUN's Department of Police Services will be conducting a test of the campus Alertus and Informacast Emergency Notification Systems in conjunction with the Great Shake Out. A joint effort of Undergraduate Studies, the Office of Faculty Development, Academic Technology, and the Faculty Technology Center, the Engagement Conference seeks to inspire all CSUN faculty teaching in the online and hybrid environments by sharing innovation and practices that have worked in CSUN courses.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the 2021 Annual Security Report (ASR) is now available for viewing at https://www.csun.edu/sites/default/files/clery-report.pdf . The ASR contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and information about drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery crimes for California State University Northridge (CSUN) for 2018-2020. Pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the 2021 Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR) is now available for viewing at https://www.csun.edu/sites/default/files/Annual-Fire-Safety-Report.pdf . The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University Northridge (CSUN) housing facilities for 2018-2020, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus.
