We know how isolating it can feel to be new at a job or perhaps a new city or neighborhood. That is why, we offer a series of events tailored for new faculty throughout the academic year. These events go from Faculty Learning Communities (see below) to workshops and even informal lunches. We will post some of these events here and also in our program calendar and we always make sure to get the word out using our email lists and monthly newsletter.
We are here to help you navigate your first years as CSUN faculty successfully.
Workshops For New Faculty
Meet Some of The Past Cohorts
Meeting new faculty is one the moments that bring the most joy for our team. Meet some of the faces of new faculty cohorts we had the pleasure to help onboard in past celebratory events.
Faculty Learning Community for Newer Faculty: Spring 2022
In this Faculty Learning Community (FLC) for newer faculty, we offer a cohesive program of exploring the steps to plan your pathway for success at CSUN with intention, purpose, and innovation. More in-depth resources and support will be provided in this program for faculty seeking a community during their transition to CSUN. We will integrate materials from The National Center of Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD) and engage in strategies around teaching, meeting writing or scholarship deadlines and navigating the service demands of tenure-track faculty. Time management strategies, balance and wellbeing will be integrated topics.
Meeting Times: Thursdays 10:00-12:00
- February: 10th, 24th
- March 10th
- April. 7th, 21st, Apr. 28th
- May 5th
New Faculty Foundations (Part 2)
This virtual event is an opportunity for newly hired faculty who already attended the August New Faculty Foundations (NFF) events or January's Part 1 event. Let's reunite on Friday January 21st, 2022 from 10:00am-3:00pm (lunch roughly around 12:10). With the NFF Committee and new colleagues from across campus, you will continue meeting each other and take part in an array of programming designed to further smooth the transition to CSUN. While topics will align with tips and resources on navigating the demands of (1) teaching, (2) scholarship/creative works, and (3) service, all requirements for tenure-track faculty, this event is inclusively open to lecturer faculty as well. Furthermore, we will also share plans to meet on campus for a guided campus tour. Assuming it is pandemic-safe, we will actually get to meet you in person later in the semester! Topics and presenters for this virtual event will include:
- How will you bring balance to your life this semester?
- Office of Faculty Affairs: Your first evaluation process (ePIFs & PAFs)
- Tech Tutors are back; Teaching tips workshop
- What's your spring scholarship plan?
- Office of Research & Sponsored Projects: Ample support for your research needs
- Getting to know each other: Community is KEY!
- What are the service requirements: Making strategic choices
This event will be held on Zoom. We look forward to seeing you again on Friday January 21, 2022. Please select the button below to rsvp for Part 2 of New Faculty Foundations.
