TRIO is a set of eight federally funded college opportunity programs that motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds in pursuit of a college degree. CSUN sponsors two of these programs, Educational Talent Search (ETS) and Upward Bound.
The ETS (grades 6-12) and Upward Bound (grades 9-12) programs at CSUN assist students in completing high school and pursuing a college degree. Our mission is to equip first generation or low-income families with up-to-date postsecondary and financial aid opportunities and enable students to attend the college or university of their choice.
Evelyn Torres Garcia, Director
Evelyn Torres Garcia is the director of TRIO, federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Over the last 10 years, she has worked to provide opportunities and access to higher education for K-12 students. Evelyn earned her master's degree from CSUN in counseling with an emphasis in college counseling and student services. She is also an adjunct professor in the Department of Child and Adolescent Development, where she teaches race, culture, gender and ethnicity development.
Vanesa Morales, Associate Director
Vanesa Morales is the associate director of TRIO, federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Over the last 7 years, she has worked with various student equity programs such as the Educational Opportunity Program and the TRIO Student Support Services Program at CSUN in order to provide educational opportunities and access to higher education for first-generation college students. Vanesa earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Creative Writing, and her Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (emphasis in Higher Education), from California State University, Northridge. She is currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Southern California.
