CISE Logo

The NSF-funded Center for the Integration of Science in Education (CISE) aims to train students from CSUN and Community Colleges in the Los Angeles area (CCLAs) in the fields of optics, photonics, and light-matter interaction.

Facilities

A fume hood

Chemical Synthesis Facility

A fume-hood equipped with a home-built chemical synthesis line based on a vacuum pump, hotplates, stirrers, N2 gas line circulation.

A research lab station

Laser Spectroscopy Facility

  • Laser sources: Ti:Sapphire femtosecond amplifier (Astrella, Coherent Inc) provides pulses centered at 800 nm, with ~33 fs pulse duration, 6 W average power, and 5 kHz repetition rate
  • Optical parametric amplifier (TOPAS Prime, Coherent Inc): Tunable from 0.47 to 2.60 µm
  • Optical parametric amplifier OPA2 (OperaSolo, Coherent Inc): Tunable from 1.1 to 5.0 µm

Capabilities

Inverted-upright hybrid microscope
Allowing measurements for liquid, solid, ensemble, and single crystal samples, either transmission or reflection modes:

  • UV-Vis steady-state absorption & emission
  • Emission lifetime-decay
  • Femtosecond transient absorption in the visible
  • Femtosecond transient absorption in the IR with upconversion into visible

Femtosecond vibrational Sum-Frequency Generation (SFG) for solid/liquid interfaces
