Policing, Equity, and Inclusion Report

Overview

During President Erika Beck's Welcome Address on September 10, 2021, the campus community learned that a team of consultants have been invited to "…assess our policing practices to ensure that they reflect care for our communities of color and respect their lived experiences in society more broadly." Working with equity, inclusion and social justice consultants, Dr. Emily Prieto, Dr. Joshua Moon Johnson, and Nick Daily of PMJ Consulting, an assessment of CSUN's current policing climate and practices, with an intentional focus on equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice was conducted. Informed by feedback from campus constituents, the goal of the assessment was to propose a strategic plan that applies an equity and justice lens to re-imagine how the CSUN Department of Police Services (DPS) could carry out its role and become more integrated and engaged with the campus community.
