Research and Interests

My research area is focused on an agency driven approach to understanding overt and covert representations of race and gender. I have a specialization in research methods and statistics and therefore seek to engage in scholastic endeavors that advance the methodological approaches in the discipline of Africana Studies, and more specifically the contemporary understanding of Black womanhood. My scholarly interests range from the historical representations of race to the social structures behind the creation and continuation of racism and misogyny. Accordingly, I have researched and developed several projects that aim to contribute to the field of Africana Studies. Currently, I am preparing a book manuscript that will focus on the export nature and impact of media in affecting perceptions of Black women. Additionally, I am working under the RIMI Tiered Mentoring Associate program on a research proposal exploring the impact of Hip Hop on the health and wellness of African American women.
