International Education Council
The International Education Council (IEC) supports the globalization of the educational experience at California State University, Northridge by developing models and strategies that strengthen global learning across the University's academic programs, research, creative activities, and partnerships. Working collaboratively with colleges and departments, the IEC helps expand meaningful global learning opportunities that prepare students to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
Key responsibilities of the IEC include:
- Identifying and sharing CSUN's strengths, distinctive practices, and opportunities for growth in globally focused education, research, creative activities, and academic programs;
- Reviewing emerging trends and innovative approaches in the globalization of higher education and their relevance to CSUN;
- Recommending strategies that enhance the global character of the undergraduate and graduate educational experience;
- Expanding opportunities for students to engage with global perspectives through innovative learning experiences;
- Supporting colleges, departments, and faculty in integrating and expanding global perspectives into curriculum, assignments, and student experiences.

Council Charge
The purpose of the California State University, Northridge International Education Council is to develop models and strategies that strengthen the global character of the educational experience for all CSUN students. The Council serves as a collaborative resource for colleges and departments by identifying effective practices, encouraging innovation, and promoting purposeful globalization across teaching, research, creative activities, and academic partnerships in alignment with the Priority Outcomes and Academic Values Guiding CSUN International Programs, Services and Relationships.
Meeting Schedule and Minutes
The International Education Council (IEC) meets three times during the academic year-twice during the Fall semester and once during the Spring semester. Between meetings, Council members continue discussions and collaborate through digital communication.
Each meeting is designed to support the Council's ongoing work of advancing global learning and strengthening the internationalization of the educational experience at CSUN.
Fall Meeting I focuses on emerging trends, innovative practices, and current developments in the globalization of higher education, providing members with ideas and perspectives that may inform future initiatives.
Fall Meeting II highlights globally focused initiatives and successful practices taking place across CSUN, giving Council members the opportunity to share ideas and learn from one another.
Spring Meeting expands on the collaborative discussion and the development of strategies that can be efficiently implemented at CSUN to support continued growth in global learning across the University.
Membership
The International Education Council brings together academic and administrative leaders from across the University to support the advancement of global learning and internationalization at CSUN. Membership includes representatives from the University's colleges, academic leadership, enrollment management, and international programs.
The Council is composed of:
- The Associate Deans of CSUN's nine colleges and the University Library
- The Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management
- The Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Studies, or designee
- The Associate Vice President for Graduate Studies, or designee
- The Provost, or designee
- The Senior International Officer, or designee
- The Deputy Senior International Officer
