Approximately 10 CSUN-RIMI Health Scholars will participate for 1-2 years. Working with these students, it is RIMI's goal to: (a) Increase research and training opportunities to students traditionally underrepresented in research fields to enhance their likelihood of entering and succeeding in graduate programs that prepare them for health disparities research, (b) provide students with advanced courses and training in conducting mentored culturally competent research in health related fields, (c) involve students in community agency data management and analysis so that the agencies can conduct program evaluation and write grants, (d) conduct research in an environment to collect ecologically valid laboratory, (e) provide a collaborative environment with other health-related students on campus to develop interdisciplinary approaches to culturally competent research, (f) instill a sense of ethics and social responsibility and the potential for social change in developing scholars, and (g) to ultimately recruit greater numbers of underrepresented researchers.
