This resource page contains a list of safety related phone (and computer/tablet) applications that can be used by students, faculty and staff. Many of these apps are offered to download free of charge.

Although the CSUN Department of Police Services does not promote any one commercial product, in the interest of crime prevention we are offering this list of safety apps and theft recovery programs that have been produced by software developers to help keep you and your property safe.

Receive alerts and advisories from the agencies you trust most. Over 4,600 municipal agencies including police, sheriff and fire departments use Nixle to keep their residents safe and informed.

Campus Sentinel
Campus Sentinel is a FREE mobile app for the iPhone and iPad that provides campus crime statistics for more than 4,400 colleges and universities, safety resources, and security news and information. During the application process, use it to understand crime and safety information for the schools you’re considering and to compare those schools’ self-reported crime data to one another. Once you’re enrolled, the app is a great resource for questions regarding safety and security issues both on and off campus.

EmergenSee allows you to designate your own personal contacts in addition to campus security officials. Keep your closest friends with you at all

Neighborhood Watch
The Neighborhood Watch App has dynamic reporting capabilities including options to add photos and text to reports from Block Captains, volunteers, or from citizens who want to report anonymously. Linked to a proprietary database of law enforcement agencies from throughout the country, the Neighborhood Watch App enables citizens to report crime concerns, suspicious activities and community disorder.


Great for Parents!

FBI’s Child ID App
Simply download the free FBI mobile application from the App Store on iTunes, add the latest photos of our child, enter key information about him or her, and update it regularly. In the unlikely event that your child goes missing, you can quickly e-mail the photos and information to authorities. The app also includes safety advice and checklists for parents. And please be assured, no information about you or your child will be collected or stored by the FBI or iTunes.

From The American Red Cross

First Aid
The official American Red Cross First Aid app puts expert advice for everyday emergencies in your hand. Available for iPhone and Android devices, the official American Red Cross First Aid app offers videos, interactive quizzes and simple step-by-step advice it’s never been easier to know first aid.

The FEMA App (smartphone app for mobile devices) contains disaster safety tips, interactive lists for storing your emergency kit and emergency meeting location information, and a map with open shelters and open FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs). The app is free to download through your smartphone provider’s app store.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. This application is an essential resource for CERT members that may be used as a reference to refresh the training that they have completed. This application is also a critical field operations guide to support CERT members during actual disaster activations.
