Nonprofit Social Enterprises: Pathways to Success and Sustainability is the 11th Annual MENDing Poverty Conference, which will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, 8 am-12:30 pm at the MEND Center in Pacoima. Co-hosted by MEND and VNR, the conference brings together nonprofit, government, foundation and community leaders on an issue of critical importance to nonprofits serving people living in poverty. This year the topic is nonprofit social enterprises - for-profit programs of nonprofits that can provide additional revenue as well as mission-related services. The opening keynote speaker will be Jan Perry, Director, Economic & Workforce Development Department, City of Los Angeles. Workshop speakers will each share their organization’s experiences with social enterprises and address a special topic:

  • David Sall, Director of Operations, Chrysalis, “Equity and Opportunities for Entry-Level and Hard-to-Employ Workers”
  • Faye Washington, President & CEO, YWCA Los Angeles, “Aligning a Social Enterprise with Overall Nonprofit Mission”
  • Ray Tellez, Vice-President, Retail & Gari Anne Douglass, Chief Financial Officer, Goodwill Southern California, “Making the Business Case for a Nonprofit Social Enterprise”

At the lunch plenary closing the conference, Robert Eggers of LA Kitchen will speak by video.
