Hello everyone -

We face unprecedented and uncertain circumstances at the moment. By “we,” I mean students, faculty, and staff. I know there may be obstacles for all of us as we work and learn online: children home from school; spotty internet; multiple demands on your computer at home; people in your household who require care; and maybe even longer work hours. As we try to continue as normally as possible when things are not even remotely normal, we may want to do everything the same way we usually do. Or we may not feel able to face the tasks in front of us, however “small” they may seem. We may feel angry, sad, hopeful, hopeless. And we may feel some combination of these things all in the same day or in the same hour! 

I’d like to assure you that the health of you and your family should be your first priority. Take care of yourselves and them first. If your work gives you a sense of purpose and helps you cope, do it. If you find yourself struggling with your work at any point, take a break from it.

Please communicate as best you can. Students, let your professors know what’s happening when you try to access course materials. Faculty, let your students know when you have materials available, when you are working out bugs and kinks in your system, and when they are fixed. Students, faculty, and staff, keep me updated. Let me know what you need.

This Friday, February 9th, at 7:00 PM in Jerome Richfield Hall, Room 319, The Reimagining Narrative Film Series returns with a special screening of David Lynch & Mark Frost’s “Twin Peaks: The Return, Part 8.” As Noel Murray puts it in his New York Times review, “There’s nothing to point to in the history of television that helps describe exactly what this episode attempts.” Please note: this film can be viewed as a standalone, so no prior knowledge of the show is necessary.
