Welcome to the START Office!

Dear STEM Transfers,

The STEM Transfer and Research Training (START) office at CSUN aspires to provide students with a central location to network with other transfer students, provide resources through workshops, and promote research opportunities.

At CSUN, transfer students comprised 49.8% of the student population in fall 2016, of which 55.1% were enrolled in STEM majors*. CSUN currently does not have an official office or center for transfer students, however, the START office will fulfill this gap.

The START office envisions a community for interdisciplinary collaboration between faculty and students, include students from underrepresented groups, who will contribute to a diverse and prepared workforce in the STEM field. We intend to build a transfer receptive culture through peer mentorship, workshops, annual research events, and recognition ceremonies.

This being said, the START office is open to all CSUN students, whether you’re interested in graduate school, research career, or professional career. I look forward in working with you to accomplish your goals!

Veronica Villasenor, STEM Transfer Program Manager

*Note: The START offices considers you a STEM major if you are in one of the following four colleges: College of Engineering and Computer Science, College of Health and Human Development, College of Science and Math, and College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
