Certificate in Real Estate

The Certificate in Real Estate is designed to prepare the individual who already holds a bachelor’s degree in a field other than Real Estate for entry into careers in real estate sales, brokerage, investment, management, appraisal, or mortgage banking. Our mission is to equip students with the academic knowledge, problem solving, analytical and professional skills in real estate necessary to achieve their personal and professional goals.

The Certificate in Real Estate meets the requirements to sit for the California Real Estate Salesperson Exam. The certificate will not serve as a waiver to the experience requirements of the Broker License.

Applications are accepted every semester.  Please apply on the Cal State Apply website:

I’m interested in getting a Certificate in Real Estate. How strong is CSUN’s program?

Frankly, we’re great.  Our business programs are accredited by AACSB (an achievement obtained by only 5% of the world’s business schools).  Our real estate classes are staffed by professors who have excellent academic credentials combined with real world experience.  We have a vigorous speakers’ series and opportunities for internships.  CSUN has one of the largest real estate program of the 23 CSU campuses and is represented on California’s Real Estate and Land Use Institute.

Is it possible to get financial aid for enrollment in the certificate program?

Yes, the Certificate in Real Estate is eligible for financial aid.  You can find out more about the types of financial aid available here:  https://www.csun.edu/financialaid/credential-students

Does the Certificate in Real Estate allow me to sit for the California Salesperson License exam?

Yes.  The certificate meets the requirements to sit for the California Real Estate Salesperson Exam.  However, the certificate alone does not meet the course requirements to sit for the Broker License Exam.  You would need to complete the remaining required courses before being eligible to sit for the Broker License Exam.
