SCV Resident Named a Moorpark Assistant Superintendent

Ms. Gibson earned her undergraduate degree from California State University, Northridge, her M.Ed in School Management from the University of La Verne and her CBO Certification from USC. She also earned Multiple Subject and Single Subject (Mathematics) Teaching Credentials. She will be leaving her position as Director of Fiscal Services in the Centinela Valley Union School District to assume her new responsibilities at Moorpark Unified School District. She has prior experience as a CBO, middle school principal and classroom teacher. -- SCV News

Brother-led charity donates bicycles to local emancipated foster youth

The brothers were referred to CSU Northridge’s Resilient Scholar’s program, which helps emancipated foster youth succeed during their enrollment at CSUN. Seventeen students there were identified as in need of the wheeled transportation and given new bicycles, helmets and locks. -- Los Angeles Times

Top transfer Aarion McDonald signs with Arizona

Regarded as one of the top freshman point guards in the country, she played in 28 games last season while starting in 21 of them. She averaged just under 10 points per game while shooting 47% from the field in 24.1 minutes per game while scoring in double-figures 12 times last season with a season-high 23 against CSUN. In the NCAA Tournament, McDonald averaged 13.7 points per game. -- KGUN

Mike Mandel

During his time at California State University, Northridge (formerly San Fernando Valley State College), Mandel found himself in a vast community of photographers. With mentors including Ed Sievers, Todd Walker and Robert Heinecken who supported experimentation within the medium, Mandel created his earliest series: People in Cars and Myself: Timed Exposures. -- Wall Street International

Teacher Reads Children’s Book Aloud And Realizes It’s Her Own Love Story

In November, Goldsmith was reading a book aloud as part of an exercise at a teachers’ meeting at CSUN Lab School in Northridge, California where she works. She quickly realized it wasn’t just any old story but rather a retelling of her love story with her boyfriend of five years Eric Hernandez, who had spent months writing, illustrating and formatting the story of their relationship into a children’s book. --Huffington Post
