Letters to the editor, June 30, 2017

The real purpose of trickle-down economics was given away by David Stockman, President Ronald Reagan’s budget director (1981-85). He admitted it was camouflage, a Trojan horse, whose real intent was just to give the wealthy more money, rather than boosting the economy. The biggest cut to top marginal individual income tax rates was in 1925, which dropped the top rate sharply from 46 percent to 25 percent. Four years later came the Great Depression. Lowriders as Art Work

-- San Fernando Valley Sun (in Spanish)

Parade's Telling of a Lynching in the South Resonates Now More Than Ever

"Considering the political climate right now, this absolutely could have been written yesterday," says director Kari Hayter, a theater instructor at Cal State Northridge who staged Parade there last year. "It's about a community struggling to keep alive, but with politicians trying to win them over in the middle of a climate that is full of intolerance and injustice. People's emotional levels are high, tensions are high, and it's a difficult time." -- OC Weekly
