Dear all,

I have a few announcements and accomplishments to share for spring 2026!

Reminders

Submitting syllabi and office hours
If you haven’t already, please do send your syllabi and office hours to Vanessa Mendoza.

English Department Canvas Majors and Minors Page
Please encourage your students to join the English Department’s Canvas English Majors and Minors Page, in which they can self-enroll by following this link. Please also consider joining yourself to receive the updates and information that our students receive.

Confidentiality in the Classroom
Please remember to log out of your classroom computer before you leave your classroom. When faculty leave computers on and open to Canvas pages, this may/can infringe on FERPA regulations for students. This also delays the next faculty member from logging into their course materials and preparing for their upcoming class. The quickest keystrokes to access the sign out menu is ctrl + alt + delete, but there are other methods as well.

Announcements

Dear CSUN English Department faculty,

It’s Awards Season!

Our department has a tradition of giving out awards each year to honor student achievement. In fact, we have a big slate of awards for both undergrad and grad students that we’ll be presenting at our annual Awards Celebration on Friday, May 8.

Each award comes with a monetary prize. Please encourage your students to apply, and tell them that “awards season” starts right now!

We’re taking applications for awards from now until Friday, April 10.

Students can read about the awards, learn which ones they may be eligible to apply for, and submit applications by enrolling in the Canvas page called “English Department Awards and Honors.” We invite you to enroll in this page yourself so that you can have access to the award information and help your students through the process. To enroll in the page, click this link,

If you have questions or concerns about this process, please contact the co-chairs of the Awards Committee, charles.hatfield@csun.edu or jackie.stallcup@csun.edu. The English Awards Celebration is one of the highlights of the year. We hope you’ll be able to make it, and ask you to spread the word among our students.

Thank you!
