The curriculum for the Philosophy Minor is both sufficiently light and flexible to complement any major degree conferred at a university.  The courses for the minor are good preparation for a professional degree in medicine, law, business, or a unique journey off the beaten track.  Many of our courses are online, making them accessible for a busy schedule.

I. REQUIRED COURSES (9-10 UNITS)

  1. Choose one of the following courses:
    • PHIL 100: Introduction to Critical Reasoning (4 units)
    • PHIL 200: Critical Reasoning (3 units)
    • PHIL 210: Reasoning in the Sciences (3 units)
    • PHIL 225: Evolutionary Reasoning (3 units)
    • PHIL 230: Introduction to Formal Logic (3 units)
  2. Choose one of the following courses:
    • PHIL 201: Ancient Western Philosophy (3 units)
    • PHIL 202: Modern Philosophy (3 units)
  3. Choose one of the following courses:
    • PHIL 350: Philosophy of Knowledge (3 units)
    • PHIL 352: Philosophy of Reality (3 units)
    • PHIL 355: Philosophy of Mind (3 units)
    • PHIL 360: Ethical Theory (3 units)
    • PHIL 365: Social and Political Philosophy (3 units)

II. ELECTIVES (9 UNITS)

Choose three additional Philosophy courses (9 units) other than PHIL 499, at least two of which are upper division courses.
