Self-care: Guide to practicing self-care through mindfulness

September 20, 2021

Dear MDECOE community,

“Self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting our own well-being, pursuing happiness, and having the ability, tools, and resources to respond to periods of stress so that they don’t result in imbalance and lead to a health crisis,” according to a recent article in Mindful Journal entitled “Guide to practicing self-care through mindfulness.” The article describes why it is important to create a self-care plan and ways to practice self-care both at work and in daily life. In particular, it is important  to engage in emotional self-care in difficult times. It is suggested that to do this, it may help to be mindful of how events in your environment affect you—physically, mentally and emotionally; surround yourself with people who can understand how you feel; identify ways to comfort yourself; think of how you may be of comfort to others.
