"The Critical Need for Social-Emotional Development in Teachers"

Schools and teachers across the country are fighting an uphill battle. Toxic stress created by poverty, trauma, and insecure relationships impede children’s learning capacities daily. The significant emotional labor required to manage these situations can simply be too much for teachers to handle, leading to burnout. Sharing research from child development, psychology, and interpersonal neurobiology, Megan Marcus will describe how developing educators’ emotional intelligence, availability, and capacity can build the kinds of relationships that studies show heal trauma, promote brain growth, and produce optimal learning.
