San Diego Padres Daily Minor League Report: May 4
Prospect Watch: Things got ugly for the TinCaps in Davenport, Iowa, as first baseman G.K. Young was forced to pitch an inning in the loss. He pitched a 1,2,3 eighth inning. ... LHP Jerry Keel struggled for Fort Wayne Thursday and allowed three home runs in the loss. Keel gave a career-high eight runs and walked four, which is very uncharacteristic for the former Cal-State Northridge righty. Keel hadn’t allowed a homer in his previous four starts and allowed just one in 75.2 innings last season for the TinCaps. The poor outing saw Keel’s ERA rise from 1.93 to 4.18 ... Eguy Rosario had a pair of hits and added a pair of stolen bases. Rosario’s overall line of .242/.337/.352 isn’t terribly impressive but the quality of the 17-year-old’s at-bats have improved over the last few weeks. -- Scout

ON THE BOOKSHELF | Labor pains in higher education
Eventually, the name was changed to UCSB/CSUN Center (for UC Santa Barbara and Cal State University Northridge, the program’s main administrators), then University Center at Ventura. When state funding was established to find a site for a separate, permanent county campus, it was dissolved and became the CSUN Ventura Campus. The new permanent university, California State University, Channel Islands, opened in 2002. -- Ventura County Reporter
