Events

The faculty at Cal State Northridge continue the tradition of hosting important symposiums to challenge the question of what the future of public education should look like, particularly that of the CSU. Cal State Northridge is one of the largest public universities in California, and perhaps the nation, serving a large and diverse population with an encompassing curriculum that has contributed to the community, state and nation, particularly in preparing effective teachers. In these dynamic and fast changing times we believe Cal State Northridge has an important role in this discussion. Circumstances motivate us to be proactive in hosting this necessary dialogue for determining a vision of public higher education for the next 50 years.

Supporting our role as host to these discussions we have posted full transcript of our past events. We do not necessarily support nor indorse any of these points of view but rather encourage open discussion.

Upcoming Events:

“Teaching in the Brave New World: What is the University for the Future?”;

It is not much of a stretch to see that the world our students are headed into is far different than the world the current faculty, administration, and government officials grew up in. What will the university need to do to prepare students for their dynamic fast changing future? What will that future look like?

The next symposium will be a regionally focused meeting in Southern California that hopes to create a strong partnership to help frame how we meet the educational demands of the future. That partnership would include voices from: UC, CSU, CCC, K-12, Chamber of Commerce, Alumni and Students.

The date for the next symposium approaching this important topic is planned for Monday, September 30, 2013.

April 2 and 3, 2012 - Funding the Future of the CSU
Location: California State University Northridge

A seminar bringing together Public Higher Education Experts to help formulate a plan for funding the future of public higher education and specifically the CSU.

On April 2 and 3 of 2012 the Cal State Northridge faculty will host a forum centered around the dilemma regarding funding obligations (or the lack thereof) that are re-defining who and what public higher education is how it will be in the future. Policies on the issue of funding seem to be adrift and a vision for planning for the future is in many ways missing.

The endeavor is ambitious as we are inviting acknowledged experts and representatives from the CSU campuses, the Community Colleges and the UC.--researchers, business leaders, policymakers and educators—to help turnaround the current stalemate on public higher education funding by envisioning a new innovative model that could carry us through for the next 50 years.
