Journalism

The Journalism Department Office is located in Manzanita Hall (MZ) 210. Staff are available on campus from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, to answer students' questions, concerns and/or to provide other services. Stop by for a chat or take advantage of a quiet study space in MZ 208. Staff also manage remote communications: Students may call 818-677-3135 or reach out via email at jour99@csun.edu. Assistance will be provided as quickly as possible. Students should check their email for the weekly student-produced Monday Memo newsletter. Journalism's social media platforms also post important Department information and updates.

Pop-up Newsroom students to take part in global project

Equipped with only their cellphones, graduate journalism students at California State University, Northridge will collaborate with more than 100 other students at universities in India, Taiwan and the UK on Nov. 16 to report about poverty in each country. The project is part of the Pop-Up Newsroom, a temporary virtual newsroom that periodically springs to life to cover stories live, using only mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Its student reporters rely entirely on social media tools, especially Twitter, which allows only 140 characters per post. Read more

Julio Cortez, Associated Press  photographer, speaks to CSUN students

Associated Press staff photographer Julio Cortez, a CSUN graduate, recently met journalism students and shared stories about his experience working on national stories, including the Boston Marathon attack and Superstorm Sandy.

Cortez earned a journalism degree from CSUN in 2006 and now works for the Associated Press in New Jersey. Read more
