On the morning of January 26, 2005, Bob Janovici was riding the Metrolink from his Northridge home to work in downtown L.A. when an abandoned SUV on the tracks caused a major derailment of the train. There were 11 fatalities, and Bob was in a coma with a broken neck and a severe brain injury.
Doctors told his wife, Sue, that Bob had only a one percent chance of regaining consciousness. He awoke. He then began the slow process of recovery.
