CSUN as One

  • CSUN as One Spring Information

Learning at CSUN

Committed to student success, CSUN offers Spring 2021 courses primarily through virtual instruction, following guidance from the CSU Office of the Chancellor. With the health and safety of students, faculty and staff a priority, virtual classes are being supplemented with a limited number of face-to-face courses and labs that require in-person experiences. Significant preventative health measures are in place for on-campus classes, labs or activities.

Spring 2021 Classes are offered in the following formats, specified in the schedule of classes:

  • Fully Online Asynchronous (FOA in the Schedule of Classes). These classes do not have a set meeting time. Students are not required to meet together at the same time.
  • Fully Online Synchronous (FOS in the Schedule of Classes). These classes have a set meeting time. You're expected to be online via the recommended software platform (e.g. Zoom, Canvas) during the entire class meeting time.
  • Fully Online Intermittent (FOI in the Schedule of Classes). These classes have some meetings at the set meeting time and some work is done "asynchronously" outside of the scheduled sessions. Students are expected to be available to be online via the recommended software platform (e.g. Zoom, Canvas) during the entire meeting time slot. Students should consult the schedule of classes and faculty member for details of the meeting pattern.
  • Campus Online Asynchronous (COA in the Schedule of Classes). The classes do not have a set online meeting time. They will have scheduled on-campus meetings that will be arranged in advance.
  • Campus Online Synchronous (COS in the Schedule of Classes). These classes have a set meeting time. Some of these meetings will be online during the scheduled time using the recommended software platform (e.g. Zoom, Canvas) and some of the meetings will be on-campus during the scheduled time.
  • Campus Online Intermittent (COI in the Schedule of Classes). These classes have some set meeting times and some work is done "asynchronously" outside of the in-person sessions. Students are expected to be available to be online via the recommended software platform (e.g. Zoom, Canvas) during the entire meeting time slot. On campus meetings will take place during the scheduled time slot. Students should consult the schedule of classes and faculty member for details of the meeting pattern.

We will not have any traditional face-to-face classes or Half Online (OH) courses in the Spring 2021 semester.

Classrooms and Laboratories

The campus has assessed laboratories and lecture spaces that will support on-campus teaching and research activities. These rooms have been prepared by enhancing video broadcast technology, posting room use and hygiene protocols, altering seating arrangements for social distancing, and installing directional signage. In addition, specific safety protocols for research activities have been developed and implemented.

University Library

Currently, the University Library remains open for most services in virtual only format. Beginning August 24, 2020, staff started offering paging and mailing of print books and other circulating materials from our collections for all of our current users. In addition, Interlibrary Loan restarted borrowing of print books and mailing them to faculty, students, and staff. Virtual assistance from librarians is also available. For information on current library status, please see https://library.csun.edu/

Tseng College

Courses through the Tseng College are primarily being offered via virtual instruction. A limited number of face-to-face/hybrid courses and labs will also be offered that are critical to the educational outcomes of the program, directly tied to progress to the degree, and that can only be accomplished in an on-campus environment. In-person instructional settings have implemented safety procedures that comply with COVID-19 protocols, such as modified room set-up for physical distancing, with signage and floor stickers; and COVID-prevention training for faculty, staff and students. The programs that were already offered in a fully online format will adhere to their schedule and modality without change.  These classes are set to retain their original times and dates.
